Javier Gomez wins Beijing triathlon World Cup
World number one Javier Gomez of Spain won triathlon's official Olympic test event in Beijing to send out a warning to his rivals ahead of next summer's Games.
Powerful US swimmer Andy Potts exited the water in the lead. Just ten seconds behind him was world number one Javier Gomez of Spain. The drama really began on the 40-kilometre bike course, where 2006 world champion Tim Don of Great Britain and Omar Tayara of Syria were both forced to withdraw after crashing, with Don suffering a suspected broken arm. Already a winner of three World Cup events this year,
Gomez completed his first 2.5 kilometre running lap in around six minutes and 40 seconds and the world number one went on to complete another comfortable victory.
