CCTV to launch Spanish, French channels
China Central Television, CCTV, says it will launch the Spanish and the French Channels on October 1st. The aim is to strengthen dialogues between China and the Spanish and French speaking countries.
On October 1, CCTV International will have the Spanish and the French Channels broadcast worldwide.
The two channels will run 24 hours a day focusing on news broadcast.
Sheng Yilai, Chief Director of CCTV International,said, "At present, CCTV has two international channels in Chinese and English. But in this world, there are many others who speak Spanish and French. I believe the newly launched channels will help these audiences know a real China."
The initiative is a follow-up of CCTV's efforts to launch CCTV E&F, a news channel that mixes the two languages. Currently, CCTV's E&F can be received in 36 countries and regions, with a total number of 4 million viewers.
CCTV hopes that the two channels will serve as a bridge between China and the Spanish and French Speaking countries around the world.
