Six-party talks: US approves draft agreement
The United States says it approves the draft agreement reached at last week's six-party talks, concerning the DPRK's nuclear program. US Assistant Secretary of State, Christopher Hill made the announcement on Tuesday. He also voiced optimism that the joint draft document will be approved by the other parties.
Christopher Hill, US assistant secretary of State, said, "I believe that the other parties are prepared to sign on to this text, but it's not a question of the US signing on and then the others put some rubber stamp to it. I mean, everyone has a view on this, we've worked together on this, so I'm confident that others will come to the conclusion that we came to."
The US stance came after a recess following the second phase of the sixth round of the six-party talks at the end of September. At the meeting in Beijing, delegations drew up a joint draft document, and are now waiting for their government's response. The nuclear talks aimed at denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula involve China, the DPRK, the United States, South Korea, Russia and Japan.
