"保全面子"用英语怎么说？

汉语中经常说“保全面子”，在英语中肯定也表达类似的意思，那么表达形式是如何呢？
英语表达为“save face”。几乎就是字面意思。也可以用save honour来表达。

save face means to avoid disgrace，to do something so that people will continue to respect you，to keep your reputation and the respect of other people.

Example：
Instead of firing the corrupt executive, they allowed him to retire in order that he might save face.
为了保全这个腐败长官的颜面，他们同意让他主动退休来代替被开除的惩罚。
