Rachel Carson decided to become a writer at a very early age.
By the time she was ten years old, several of her stories had already appeared in magazines.
When she entered college, however, a course in biology changed her plans for the future, and she began a career

about the sea.
Rachel Carson died in 1964.
"A Statement of Belief" presents Carson's feelings about the value of our natural environment.
In her presentation, Carson also attempts to persuade the reader to share her beliefs.

He died a few years ago at the age of ninety-three, in full possession of his keen mental powers.
