Co-education or Single-sex Schools

Nowadays, we can often hear people complain that it is much more difficult to teach students of today. They create a lot of problems, which make adults very worried. Some people even raise doubts about the practice of co-education男女同校. They think that the problem may lie in our educational system. A girl school or a boy school may be a better choice. There are also people who firmly advocate提倡, 鼓吹 the practice of co-education. As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of赞同, 有利于 the former opinion.

Co-education has a number of advantages. Above everything else, as we all know, the adult world is made up of male and female, so should the school be. Co-education helps one better know his/her social role so that one can easily adapt himself/herself to the outside world. Secondly, co-education offers a good chance for male and female students to better understand one another, thus removing illusions and wrong impression of the opposite sex. The fact is that the more they are segregated from the opposite sex异性, the more curious they become about the opposite sex. Thirdly, co-education helps refrain students from忍住, 制止 indecent下流的, 猥亵的, <口>不象样的, 不妥当的 behaviors because of the presence of the opposite sex. According to an investigation conducted by some psychologists, students, both male and female, will pay more attention to their own speech and action with the opposite sex. They will be well-behaved行为端正的, 彬彬有礼的 and well-adjusted.

On the other hand, those who are against co-education have their own reasons. First of all, they maintain that there is a possibility of puppy love 早年初恋. Some teenagers are precocious早熟的 and they easily fall in love. Second, female students may suffer from discrimination and inequality. Thirdly, the co-education system cannot cater to the individual needs of students of both sexes. While in segregated schools, boys and girls can fully develop themselves to their own interest and abilities. In boy schools, boys can enjoy many courses specially designed for them while it is the same with girls in girl schools.

When advantages and disadvantages are put together, we can see that the advantages of co-education far outweigh its disadvantages. What we should do is to change our methods of teaching children when time changes so that we can keep up with the trend and let our children develop in a healthy way.
