这一节方向标为大家讲解一下一个词汇:连败losing streak.

1. Van Exel beat the shot clock with a 3-pointer with 1：13 left for a 101-99 lead， but Mason hit an off-balance shot in the lane.
　　Van Exel在比赛剩下1分13秒出手时限结束前投进一记三分球使比数以101比99领先，但是Mason在禁区内在身躯不稳的情形下也投进一球。
　　beat the shot clock：在出手时限结束之前（完成出手投篮的动作） .NBA规定进攻一方必须在内24秒出手投篮，但在球过中线以后在前场的发球后，必须在 14 内秒出手投篮，否则违例。shot clock即是这种限时的定时器。在工作时限 （deadline，例如：交报告、交学费、申请入学、报名考试等的截止日期）前完成工作，可以说 beat the deadline.

　　ruin：坏了…的好事，…的好事泡汤。
　　debut：首度公开出现（于某场合）。
　　Three decades：三个十年（decade），三十年。
　　3. Iverson， the NBA MVP， still is rehabilitating his right elbow. McKie， the league's Sixth Man of the Year， has an injured right shoulder. Both are close to returning.
　　NBA最有价值球员Iverson的右肘仍在养伤之中。NBA最佳第六人McKie右肩受伤。两人即将返回球场。
　　rehabilitating：养伤，原形是 rehabilitate，名词形为 rehabilitation.其它的用字还有 recuperate.「护士」一字 nurse当做动词用也是「养伤」的意思。
　　close to：接近于…。此处的「接近」是指接近某种程度或状况。由于此处的to是介系词，因此后面接着用动词时，应用动名词「动词+ing」；千万不要把这个 to 当做不定词的 to 而接动词原形。
　　4. The Cavaliers managed to get within eight points early in the fourth quarter， but it didn't take long for the Kings to finish them off. …Seattle forward Rashard Lewis managed only 11 points.
　　第四节才开始不久，骑士队勉强将比数拉近到只落后 8 分，但好景不常，国王队后来仍终结了骑士队…西雅图（超音队）的前锋 Rashard Lewis 拼拼凑凑只得到11分。
　　managed：设法…；勉强达到…的目标。做此意思解释时，后面接动词时必须使用不定词的型式。
　　take long：花很长的一段时间。此词组通常只用于否定句。
　　5. …Jackson made consecutive 3-pointers and the Kings hit eight of their first 11 shots from the field in the second quarter while building a 21-point lead.
　　…Jackson连续投进三分球，国王队在第二节中投11中 8而取得21分的领先。
　　consecutive：连续：指一连串；此处不用 continuous，因为 continuous表示不中断。
　　6. Coach talked to me today about making plays， not just being a 'go-to' man， but also getting my teammates involved.
　　今天教练对我说，我应该如何控球完成进攻计划；不要只做个「关键时刻」射手，而是要帮助队友进入状况。
　　'go-to' man：在关键时刻可以托付重任的人，另一个说法是 clutch player.
　　7. Jones scored five of his points in overtime to help the Heat snap a two-game losing streak.
　　Jones在延长赛中得到5分，使（迈阿密）热浪队终止两场连败。
　　help the Heat snap：snap本意为「（突然）折断、（突然）断掉」，引申为「终止」之意。help 接受词再接第二个动词时，用不定词「to+动词」，但一般常省略to.
　　losing streak：连败。此处streak是指（比赛胜、负场数的）连续。连胜当然就是winning streak了。
　　8. Gill， meanwhile， fractured the small finger on his left hand…
　　同时，Gill左手小指骨折…
　　fractured：「动词」骨折；「名词」：fracture.脱臼是 dislocate，筋骨、肌肉、韧带、关节的扭伤是 sprain.
　　9. Coach Rudy Tomjanovich thought it just took Francis a while to get in a groove.
　　教练Rudy Tomjanovich认为 Francis只要过一段时间就能得心应手。
　　take （somebody） a while：花（某人） 一段时间。
　　in a groove：得心应手，顺手，上手。
　　10. The big difference was the rebounding. Even when they went small， they pounded the boards better than we did.
　　最大的差异在于篮板球数量的多寡。即使他们摆出「地虎」阵容，他们抢篮板球也比我们抢得凶。
　　went small：排出身材较为矮小的球员阵容。也可以说 play small ball.
　　pounded the boards：抢篮板球。
