Beijing to guarantee air quality for Olympics
The Beijing municipal government has given its approval to measures aimed at guaranteeing air quality for next year's Olympics.
Moves will involve cooperation with one neighboring municipality, one autonomous regions and three provinces. These include Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi and Shandong to set up a unified system to monitor air quality.
Major polluting culprits will also find themselves under closer scrutiny. Within Beijing itself, major steel producer, Capital Steel, is expected to stop operations at some of its facilities by the end of the year. And it will further step up efforts to cut pollution during the Olympics when it's agreed to reduce output by as much as 70 percent.
