Marika Domanski-Lyfors resigns as head coach
Marika Domanski-Lyfors is calling it quits as the national coach of China's women's football team. Hired just seven months ago, she was the first foreign coach to head the team.
Domanski-Lyfors leaves four weeks after the Chinese team was knocked out of the women's World Cup quarterfinals. Although she didn't achieve the goal of reaching the semi-finals, changes in team morale, players' confidence and some technical improvements have impressed CFA officials and Chinese fans. She says she's leaving for "health and family" reasons. China is now left with the hefty task of finding a replacement as quickly as possible with the 2008 Olympic Games only 10 months away.
