ceremony rite formality 都含“礼节”、“仪式”的意思

ceremony 指“正式的, 通常是庄严的宗教或其它庆典中具有特殊形式及程序的礼仪”, 如: the ceremony of launching a ship 船下水典礼。

rite 多指“既定的宗教活动或其他庄重的庆典”, 如:burial rites  葬礼。

formality 指“正式的活动或习惯中的礼节”, 通常与社交活动有联系, 如:the formalities of a wedding 结婚典礼。
