Dutch treat

这是一个名词性短语，其中的treat一词不是解作“对待、治疗”的动词，而是个名词。名词treat的意义是“款待、请客”。那么Dutch treat（荷兰人或荷兰式的请客）是什么样的一种请客呢？大概因为荷兰人的精打细算或者说是吝啬小气是出了名的，所以所谓Dutch treat根本就无所谓是请客了，实际上就是各人自己掏腰包付自己的账，也就是我们通常所说的“AA制”。

At the end of the term the whole class will have a meal at an expensive restaurant. Of course it is going to be a Dutch treat – everybody pays for his own meal.
学期结束时，全班同学将去一家昂贵的餐馆吃一顿，当然，谁也不请谁，大家自己掏腰包。

和Dutch treat意义相同的另一个短语是go Dutch，不过这是个动词短语，go在其中作连系动词用：

You are spending too much money. I prefer to go Dutch.
你太花费了，我觉得还是各人自己付账好了。

roll out the red carpet

在影片或电视上你也许看到过隆重的欢迎仪式，　为了表示对一位来访者，如国宾的欢迎，东道主往往从贵宾下飞机处就开始铺起了红地毯，有时，红地毯甚至可以从飞机的舷梯一直铺到贵宾室的入口处。用红地毯来表示对客人的尊敬和欢迎似乎是一种传统。因此，roll out the red carpet (摊开红地毯)便是准备热烈隆重地欢迎的意思，即使在许多情况下主人未必真的铺开一条红地毯：

They rolled out the red carpet for the governor, who came to unveil the newly-built local school.
总督前来为新落成的地方学校揭幕，他们对他表示了隆重的欢迎。

They rolled out the red carpet when the manager of the company came to dinner.
当公司的经理来吃饭时，他们盛情款待。

red和carpet还可以构成形容词red-carpet，修饰名词welcome, treatment等：

Wherever the singer went, he was given a red-carpet welcome by his fans.
那歌星所到之处，都受到他的歌迷的热烈欢迎。
